Beautiful insights.
Emotional presence is indeed the invisible foundation of transformative coaching.

Dr. Marcia Reynolds reminds us of something deeply human:
coaching is not merely about applying competencies, but about being fully present with another soul.

From a neuroscience perspective, presence regulates the nervous system and creates trust.
From a leadership perspective, it unlocks openness and growth.

And interestingly, this idea resonates strongly with the Islamic ethical tradition.

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ emphasized deep human presence and attentive listening.
The Qur’an reminds us:

“فَبِمَا رَحْمَةٍ مِّنَ اللَّهِ لِنتَ لَهُمْ”
“It is by the mercy of Allah that you were gentle with them.”
(Qur’an 3:159)

True influence does not come from technique alone —
it comes from رحمة (compassion), حضور (presence), and صدق (authenticity).

In a world increasingly shaped by AI, perhaps the real competitive advantage of coaches is not technology, but human depth.

Coaching the person, not the problem, is therefore not only a methodology —
it is a philosophy of seeing the human being before the issue.

I really like what Carly had to say about AI. “separating authentic practitioners from those who rely on technology as a substitute for presence.” Presence is a key quality of a coach, who can notice nuances of client energy that words on paper may miss.

This is great. I sometimes feel I’m talking about ME, when my intent is to find a connection and show my own vulnerability. Not sure how I found you, but this program was priceless. I have been a storyteller since a young child. As an End-of-Life coach I blog weekly. My most powerful blogs, as measured by responses, are the ones that feature story. I will be looking for more so I can hone the skill of helping clients engage with and rewrite their stories. Interesting to hear the linkage between coaching and journaling, e.g. the coach being the journal. I have found over the years that some of my coaching clients who were initially reluctant to journal found it in the end to be their secret weapon to growth, surprising themselves with their own inner wisdom. Yes there is a bit of fear and reluctance to slow down and contemplate, but this response is a nugget for coaching itself.
